Our Study of Japanese Culture

We are reading a novel in class titled "Sadako".  Along with literacy activities, we are experiencing some other aspects of Japanese culture.  Be sure to ask your child about the exciting things we are learning.

I also wanted to give a big THANK YOU to Mrs. Freeman.  She sent our class a rather large piece of spring today.  We love the flowers and are anxious for Spring.

PARCC TESTING

Next week we will be taking the new PARCC test in class.  This is the standardized testing method that we will be using instead of ISAT.

In class all week, we will be going through practice test, tutorials, and discussion groups in order for the students to feel prepared.

At home the students need to be sure that they are getting plenty of rest, and eating a healthy breakfast.  Please be sure to have your child bring headphones in as I do not have a class set and the students will need them for the test.

Thank you for all your support!

THE EAGLE EGG HAS LANDED!

We have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the first eagle egg in the nest... On February 18, 2015 the first egg arrived.  If you would like to share this experience with your child, feel free to use the link titled "Eagles Nest".

We will check in on the family each day to check progress and discuss what is going on in the nest.  This is also a great opportunity to do some research about eagles and share your findings at school.

Week of February 17, 2015

Thank you to all the families for attending conferences.  It was great to talk to you and share your child's success story.    I hope you are all enjoying our long weekend.  I wanted to give a few updates from our classroom:

LITERACY
Our next WEB project and essay due date is fast approaching.  Your child should have the two books read, evidence gathered defending their common theme, and begin writing their rough draft.  I am encouraging all students to bring their rough draft in this week for me to proof read and look over.  On Friday, we will have an in-class work day.

MATH
We have started our study of the metric system.  This unit will include time, money, measurement, area and perimeter.  Feel free to have your child use the Front Row Ed website to practice these skills at home.

SCIENCE
We are starting a unit on nutrition.  I will be sending home a food log for your child to complete at home and then we will discuss and analyse the results in class.  Please be sure to help your child remember to log ALL food eaten during this period of time.

Our Valentine's Day celebration!

Working Hard on our Mythology Unit!

The students are really getting into our study of mythology.  They are learning about its impact on our world today and finding a connection to other pieces of literature.  Nicely done boys and girls!
