CLASSROOM UPDATE

Hello Everyone,
I wanted to say "Thank You!!" for attending the Back to School Night.  I enjoyed meeting all of you and sharing our classroom with you.  I hope that you had the opportunity to sign up for blog updates and DoJo reports.

LITERACY
We have started our study of literary elements.  We are using a much loved story, "Gorky Rises".  We will identify and discuss in detail the literary elements of that story.  The strategy being utilized is inner conversation.  I am hoping to start some small group instruction next week.

SPELLING
We are in our second week of unit one.  The students have their Proof It homework and it is due THURSDAY, AUGUST 28, 2014  On Friday, we will have our first spelling test.  I will be posting the words on the blog today and the students can use them to prepare for that test.

MATH
The first unit we will study is Multiplication and Division (with number sense).  I encourage you to help your child with the math facts.  This can be done on Xtra Math (see links), with flashcards, or a fun game called "Salute the General".  I will share this game with the students today.  The first Problem of the Week was assigned yesterday and is due FRIDAY, AUGUST 29, 2014.

SCIENCE
Our rocks and minerals unit will continue today and the rest of this week with preparation for the experiments next week.  The students will become amateur geologists who have "discovered" a new rock. They will perform experiments in an effort to identify the rock.
