Week of October 14, 2013
I want to thank all parents and families for attending conferences. It was so exciting to meet all of you and have an opportunity to share your child's progress. Below is information regarding what has been going on in our classroom.
Science/Social Studies
We have completed our first science unit. The field trip was a huge success and I think the kids were able to make the connections. We are starting our first social studies unit on the Midwest region. Continue to look for the home school connections and have fun with them!
Literacy
We have been practicing several reading strategies throughout the past several weeks. We are currently working on non-fiction texts and how to extract information. Additionally, we are coming up on the due date for the WEB 2 book. We will be writing a 5 paragraph essay in class.
Math
Your child has completed Unit 2 in math and should have come home with their pre-test and post-test stapled together. As we discussed at conferences, each unit of study we will take a pre-test and a post-test. This allows me to judge what material needs to be addressed and what material is learned. For your student, it gives them a clear picture of how much they have learned. Finally, continue to work through those problem of week! I know they are challenging, but they will help your child perform well on upcoming tests.
