Week of November 4, 2013
Hard to believe that it is November already! We have some great things happening this week. Below you will read about what we will be studying. Also, keep your eyes peeled for some pictures from our Fall Party.
Social Studies
We are finishing our unit on the Midwest. The students will have their first opportunity to teach the class! We have been researching and rehearsing our roles as an effective member of a group (team). They are doing a great job and I am excited to hand the role of teacher over to them.
Math
We have made an exciting change in our schedule, we now have math in the morning. I feel as though the students are more engaged and excited about learning math concepts in the morning. We are finishing our unit on number sense/place value. We have used technology, group and individual assignments to help learn the concepts. There is also a You Tube video rap that helps the kids remember the order of the place values. They love it and sing along EVERY time! We will be testing this week so be sure to look in their folders for the pre-test stapled to the post-test. Our next unit is multiplication and division.
Literacy
WEB 2 book and diary was due today, Monday, November 4, 2013. We will be using these diaries to complete our first 5 paragraph summary. We will work together in class on a paragraph a day. Any student that needs additional time to complete their paragraph will be asked to complete it as homework. My expectation is that they do ONE paragraph a day. I will take my time in order to teach the students my expectations. In doing so, I hope that they will be able to complete the next summary more independently.
